Confirm that the network card name is set to the correct network interface on the host machine and click “OK”. Click on “Network” > “Adapter 1” to confirm that the network adapter is enabled and set the “Attached to:” dropdown to “Bridged Adapter”.Click on the little CD icon under the IDE controller and in the “Attributes”, browse to select the downloaded 3CX ISO.Right click on the machine, select “Settings” > “Storage”.Next you need to configure the storage to be the ISO you just downloaded.Hit Create! You now have an instance ready to which you can install Debian for 3CX.Set the “Hard disk file type” to “VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)” with the “Dynamically allocated” option.Set the file size to 16 GB or increase as required for your testing environment and your hard disk allows.Choose the “Create a virtual hard disk” option and click on “Create”.Select “Linux” and “Debian (64-bit) as type and version.Select “New” and enter a name for the new VM.You now need to fire up a new virtual instance and point it to the ISO image you just downloaded: Debian for 3CX is ONLY available for 64 bit systems and can be downloaded from your customer portal account.

For the purpose of this document, we will focus on Debian for 3CX as a number of extra steps have been removed in this distribution and the installation script is launched automatically.

If you wish to install 3CX on a plain vanilla Debian this is possible too, just a few extra steps are required. Once your environment is “ready for Linux” you can proceed to download Debian for 3CX.

Do not install 3CX with VirtualBox for productive environments. You can download the latest version of VirtualBox to use it for testing purposes. There are several virtualization software out there, but a widely used and completely free option is that of VirtualBox. If you want to get your hands dirty with 3CX on Linux, we recommend you use virtualization software to create a virtual instance on your Windows or Mac machine.
